hi, a question from a friend

Friday, May 30th, 2003

Hi, I’m here again but this time is not for me: there’s a friend of
mine who is perplexed about one thing and I suggested her asking the
group.
She has been on a diet for one year and she has lost about 50/60 lbs
(30 kg: I hope the transformation is right!) Now she has been on a
stall for some months, but she needs to lose about 20 lbs more, also
because she has a weak form of diabete (sorry I don’t know the
English for this…)She is afraid to begin SBD because of the big
amount of proteins and fats in phase I, which are really more than
that she is introducing with her current eating style. Has anybody
of you lived such a kind of experience? I told her that probably her
metabolism is too low now as she really eats too little, but if you
have any other ideas they are welcome.

Phase 1 …again

Thursday, May 29th, 2003

I decided to start Phase 1 again today. I have had a hard time
since the first of the year. So I decided that the only way I can
get back on track is to start over. I know this is the best diet
for me. It’s the only one I have lost weight on in a long time.
Thanks for all the support of this group.

hi, here is a new member from Italy

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003

Hi everybody, can you really guess how difficult is to follow such a
diet for an Italian? We aren’t accustomed to eat eggs at breakfast and
living without pasta, or our fabulous bread, it’s quite impossible.
Please, help me find some other possibilities for morning breakfast,
as my husband doesn’t believe he can stand all those eggs with his
very high cholesterol and tryglicerids(is this the right word?)!!!
I succeeded in involving him, too, but it is not easy to make him
follow the diet in the right way as he finds hard eating ham or cheese
during work hours. We can leave pasta, bread, biscuits and (above all)
PIZZA apart for now, but I’m afraid he will surrender sooner or later…
Thanks for your advice.

Hey All,
I just joined today. I bought the book on Saturday, started the diet
on Sunday. Saturday was so much fun, I ate anything and everything I
am not supposed to one last time before my new diet, haha. Sunday
was a hard day for me. I was hungry a lot, but I couldnt find
anything that fits in the criteria to snack on, that I actually like.
I was wondering if everyone is following the first phase diet day by
day eating plan. I havent use it, I didnt even like the first thing
on the menu. I am only about 20 lbs over weight, and I have tried
everything to lose them, including the low fat diet which never
seemed to work, even with regular exercise. I am curious to know if
everyone has only lost around the midsection, because this isnt my my
problem area, its my but and thighs, I didnt gain any weight at all
on my stomach yet, and I am wonder since the book says over and over
that I will notice the weightloss in my midsection, that if anyone
else has lost the first pounds elsewhere. Anyhow, your success
stories and helpful ideas are very helpful, and encouraging.

A Very Popular Hummus Recipe

Saturday, May 10th, 2003

I am hooked on Trader Joe’s Hummus, but it gets expensive so I make
this one. I add some roasted red bell pepper and diced serranos or
chipotle to this basic hummus for extra zest.
Mary-Anne
A Very Popular Hummus Recipe
4 cups of dried, soaked, chickpeas, cooked, with their own liquid
reserved or 4 cups of frained and rinsed canned chickpeas (garbanzos)
(two 15 oz. cans)
1 small onion, minced
3 garlic cloves, minced crushed to a paste (I crush them with kosher
salt)
1/4 cup tahini
3-6 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/4 c. fresh lemon juice (I use limes because we grow them)
2 Tbsp. finely chopped cilantro
2 Tbs, finely chopped flat leaf parsley
2 Tbsp finely chopped mint
freshly ground pepper; taste for salt
*optional roasted red pepper, chipotle or minced red serrano chile
Combine the chickpeas with 1/2 c. of their cooking liquid, or, if you
are using canned chickpeas, 1/2 cup water, in a food processor or
blender, with the onion, garlic, tahini, 2 Tbsp of the olive oil, and
the lemon/lime juice. Puree the mixture to a smooth paste, adding up
to 1/2 cup more liquid, if necessary to get the paste to move around.
Stir in the optional herbs, season to taste with salt and pepper, and
spread the hummus on a platter. If you are not serving it right away,
cover it with platic wrap and keep it in the fridge. Just before
serving, drizzle the remaining olive oil, if you wish. Serve at room
temperature with toasted pita wedges (or not toasted, if you like).
At this point, depending on the audience, I add a pinch or so of
Aleppo pepper.
Use reallllly good XXX olive oil!!!
Enjoy!
This is basicially the version given on p.250-251 of Vegetables, by
James Peterson, William Morrow & Co., N.Y., 1998.
I like this even better than most given in my “forest” of ME
cookbooks.

Green Dog
Read Each One Carefully and Think About It a Second or Two

1. No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won’t make you cry.

2. Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

3. A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.

4. The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can’t have them.

5. Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.

6. To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

7. Don’t waste your time on a man/woman, who isn’t willing to waste their time on you.

8. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the person, we will know how to be grateful.

9. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.

10. There’s always going to be people that hurt you so what you have to do is keep on trusting and just be more careful about who you trust next time around.

11. Make yourself a better person and know who you are before you try and know someone else and expect them to know you.

12. Don’t try so hard, the best things come when you least expect them to.

REMEMBER: WHATEVER HAPPENS, HAPPENS FOR A REASON.

True friends: How many people actually have 8 true friends?
Hardly anyone I know ! But some of us have all right friends and good friends!!!
