New Member
Hey All,
I just joined today. I bought the book on Saturday, started the diet
on Sunday. Saturday was so much fun, I ate anything and everything I
am not supposed to one last time before my new diet, haha. Sunday
was a hard day for me. I was hungry a lot, but I couldnt find
anything that fits in the criteria to snack on, that I actually like.
I was wondering if everyone is following the first phase diet day by
day eating plan. I havent use it, I didnt even like the first thing
on the menu. I am only about 20 lbs over weight, and I have tried
everything to lose them, including the low fat diet which never
seemed to work, even with regular exercise. I am curious to know if
everyone has only lost around the midsection, because this isnt my my
problem area, its my but and thighs, I didnt gain any weight at all
on my stomach yet, and I am wonder since the book says over and over
that I will notice the weightloss in my midsection, that if anyone
else has lost the first pounds elsewhere. Anyhow, your success
stories and helpful ideas are very helpful, and encouraging.

Lisa,
In 4 weeks I’ve lost 8lbs ALL OVER! Actually my butt and thighs are
the areas where I’ve lost more of the inches. I started at 154 lbs,
and my goal is to lose 20 lbs. My stomach has gone down, but not as
much as my thighs…may be we should blame a c-section.
Good luck!

Ana,
You have given me hope! Thank you. Although I have not had a C-
section. I am so looking forward to my results. I started on Mar
14, so I havent seen too many changes yet!

Hello everyone,
I am new to this group and very excited to try the SBD as I am sure
everyone was! : ) My question is does anyone have a basic diet
menu for one day that they would be willing to share? I am looking
on the web but can’t seem to find a sample plan. Oh also, I noticed
cheese is fine to eat but does it have to be low fat or no fat? I
thought low fat and no fat products had a lot of sugar in them.
Thanks,
Jen

Hello! My name is Debra and I am from SW Florida. I’m 25 years old
I’m 5′0″ tall and am weighing in at 155 pounds. When I went to see
and married to a wonderful man for over 6 years now. We have no
children but do have one Himalayan cat named Shadow. Shadow owns us
not the other way around!
my internist for a checkup she mentioned my weight. Yes, I KNOW it’s
a problem and really would like to get it under control. So she
mentioned the SBD. I went and got the book and read it through. I’m
really concerned about my health but can’t seem to get the
motivation and willpower needed to succeed. DH is supportive of me
but it’s hard when he is very healthy and fit. He can go out and eat
out all the time eating the worst things and never gain anything! Of
course, he always takes me with him and when I see him eating
something like a huge burger and fries it makes me want to eat it
too. I really will need the support and motivation from the group
and promise to give the same in return. I have a hard time thinking
about what to eat as I am a very picky either. I do not like seafood
or eggs - blech! And the tomato juice mentioned in the book just
makes me want to gag!
I’ll be starting tomorrow and will look forward to being a part of
the group. Thanks!

Hi my name is Karen, I started South Beach in 1/04 stuck with it for
several months and lost 18lbs. Quit during vacation and the rest of
the summer and have gained some back, want to get rid of that weight
plus another 10lbs. My question for all you is, according to the SB
book, if you backslide, go back on phase 1 and start over. I didnt
have any trouble with P1 before but now can’t stick to it very well.
(the first time I felt great, had energy, never hungry, now I am
starving, cranky, tired) I have heard that the first time you start a
low-carb diet it may be the only time it will work for you and if you
mess up your “golden opportunity” to keep with it, that its much
harder to lose the weight again doing low-carb…has anyone had this
experience? Anyone used SB diet then gained, then SB workied again?
Thanks in advance for any imput

Hi…I am new to the list.
My husband and I were on the SBD about a year ago and were losing
weight. We unfortunately got off the diet and gained back all the
weight PLUS…
My husband is borderline diabetic with high colestrol and I am VERY
overweight and need a knee replacement badly. I HAVE to lose weight
and so does my husband. BTW, my husband is legally blind and does
not drive so you can imagine the problems with my getting my knee
replaced. I HAVE TO lose some weight and I have to lose it ASAP. I
can’t put off the surgery much longer.
I am 57 and my husband is 51. We live in Houston, Texas with 3 toy
dogs. My kids are grown and on their own.
I just won a LARGE print copy of SBD book on Ebay so my husband can
hopefully read it too…he has some very limited vision and can read
if the print is large enough and he uses his visual aid.
Thanks for letting me be a part of the list.

Hi everyone - I have been on SB for a little over a year. During the
first 9 months I lost about 45 lbs - I still would like to take off
20 more but right now I am just coasting and sticking will all the
healthy ideas I learned on SB.
The first week on SB I stuck like glue to the diet and lost 12 lbs.
and it showed right in the stomach area. My cholesterol has gone
from 196 to 140 and is still going lower. And my Triglycerides have
gome from 329 to 66 - and my good and bad (ldl and hdl) is great also.
I bought the SB cookbook and use a lot of the recipes from it.
During phase 1 I had a week long headache - but I was a sugar and
coffee freak and gave them both up! The coffee only because I can’t
stand the fake sweeteners and I drank my coffee (and lots of it) with
lots of sugar in it.
I also needed very badly the ricotta cheese goodie every night - the
only thing that got me through the TV cravings.
My breakfast was the quiche from the SB book - which I made a batch
of and kept in the freezer along with V8 juice. Lunch was lots of
salads trying different ideas from the book. And water, water, water.
I think the one thing that got me through phase 1 was I would NOT
break the diet at all. Of course I had people at work knowing what I
was doing, so that helped.
The reason I tried SB was when I saw the book and the list of food -
I said hey-I like those foods, so that helped also.
Good luck everyone!

Ah…that would explain it. However, also explains why the list is so
quiet, as no give and take can get going. Anyone know a busier list they’d
recommend?

Hi everyone:
I’ve been wanting to join a support group for SBD. My husband found
this one, so I thought I’d give it a try.
I’ve followed the SBD for 18 months, I lost a total of 67 lbs. Have
maintained for almost a year now. It’s a great plan, I know this has
to be a life long program to follow, so I’m looking for someone that
is going through what I am, and hope my success can be an
encouragement to someone.
Looking forward to talking to you all,
Cheryl

HI
I just got the South Beach Diet Book and I will have my first day on the beach tomorrow. I joined this group to get support. I always start diets and have a hard time sticking to them, because I get so hungry. However, I hear that this is not the case with the South Beach program. I hope it is true. Any advise you can give me is welcome.
