question about protein shakes!

Wednesday, June 25th, 2003

I have been on SBD for just over a week now and I was wondering if
anyone can recommend a protein (soy, preferably) shake that is
allowed on Phase 1. I take step aerobics at 5:45a.m. and need
something quick that will get me through the class since I don’t have
time to get a good breakfast until about 8a.m.
Thanks!

New to the Group Staying on Phase One

Tuesday, June 24th, 2003

Just wanted to say HI, I’m a 37 yr old mom of 2 teenagers, I’ve been
on SBD for about 7 weeks now (all phase one) and have lost 22lbs. I
need to lose another 30, and I’m afraid to go to phase 2 and stall
the weight loss, has anyone been sucessful staying on phase one
continuously.?

Hey Newbie Here :)

My name is MySTiE, I live in Los Angeles, and I’m just starting SBD—
well re-starting. I started about a week ago w/my mom and boyfriend,
but had to go off the diet b/c I got sick (sinus infection/cold). I
tried to start back today, but we were invited out to dinner, and I
ate bread, so tomorrow—back on the wagon so to speak.
I’m excited about this program b/c my mom has agreed to stop drinking
wine for 2 weeks during phase 1…which is like a small miracle. She
has been offered beer and wine, even out to dinner, and she has
turned it down. I’m so proud of her. I want to do well but its
going to take some motivation for me, and some advanced planning.
You’d think this would be easy for Ben (bf) and I, we are both
classically trained Chefs.
So I’m 34, he’s 22, and we both have some weight to loose. He
doesn’t have much, mostly just a little spare tire from working a
sedentary job. I’d like to lose at least 50. Wondering how long
that will take on this plan, b/c I know it’s not about the quick
fix. Back on Phase 1 tomorrow. Hope to check this site regularly
and participate often. You guys all have some great things to say—
I was checking your posts before I joined.
Thanks again!

New Today

Hi Gang,
New to the group and new to the diet. I have been a Weight Watcher
for a long time but told my husband that I would join him in this
diet. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

What’s the real directive?

Wednesday, June 18th, 2003

The book is so confusing. What are you really suppose to do?
Balance a protein and veggie from the list at meals, eat small
portions. For instance can you have the peanut butter as 2 snacks or
is it a once a day thing?
This is my first day, I just bought the book last night.
Thanks,
Kathe

What’s the real directives?

Monday, June 16th, 2003

I just bought the book and it doesn’t really tell you the
limitations, like a meat and veg each meal or <20 grams carbs/day,
etc.
What about condiments? Can you have mustard or sugar-free ketchup?
Are you not suppose to eat after 8pm? Any restrictions like that?
Thanks,
Kathe

Why no milk??

Sunday, June 8th, 2003

Can someone help me with this one, i’ve just started phase 1 and
realized that i’m not allowed any milk!!
I have about 14oz of skim milk every morning with my protein shake, i
cannot bear having my protein shake with water and don’t think i can
handle eating eggs for breakfeast for the next two weeks.
I was considering eating a protein bar here and there for breakfeast
but there’s about 40g of carbs and probably sugar(sucrose).
Please advise why no milk and what alternatives there are for
breakfeast.
Thank you

she is going to try, and I’m very happy about it. She only told me she
had a little pain in her stomach after having eaten ricotta as her
evening dessert. Could it be possible just to have few nuts instead of
cheese in the late evening?
Thanks to all for your kind answers: Italian espresso is short and has
got less caffeine in it than American coffee, and as I am not having
cravings I think it is fine for me.
A very big kiss to you all and particularly ro Jenny

a little question on caffeine

Wednesday, June 4th, 2003

Does anybody know the reason why caffeine is not permitted? Have you
ever tried Italian espresso? It’s the way we wake up every morning, so
it’s really hard work for me without it. But… if there is a special
reason I may try to stop drinking it, just for a while.
I’d like to thank you all as I’ve read all the letters since the
beginning, also because I wanted to understand better how the diet
worked. What I realized is that sometimes it is really hard going on
alone through this path towards healthy eating, but together it can be
not only possible, also enjoyable. Please, everybody, hold on and
don’t give up; I started one week ago and I’ve already lost 3 lbs (1,5
kg), which can seem not much, but on me it’s a lot (my weight is about
130 and I’m 1,64 m tall - sorry I don’t know how much it is in your
measure units - i’ll find it). I only have a little problem: I got a
bit constipation because of the change of food. Do you have any advice
about that?
Thanks a lot
bye and let’s win our challenge!!
