transitioning to phase II

Saturday, July 12th, 2003

Hi, I’m new to SB. My mom lost 12 pounds during phase I. After 8
days, I can already fasten some pants that I had couldn’t before.
But, I find myself looking anxiously toward Phase II. I think, “I’ll
eat this, I’ll eat that”. That concerns me. So should I stay on
Phase I until the desire for orange sherbet and real cheddar cheese
goes away?

When did the updated book come out? I have a hard back that I bought
last fall- is this the latest one?

exercise

Thursday, July 10th, 2003

Hi. I don’t know anything about physiology, so I can’t answer those questions.
This group seems pretty quiet, but hopefully someone will be able to answer
them.
My exercise goals are to walk a half mile every morning followed by about 5
minutes of strength training (I’m following a plan) and some stretching and
then at night I do 1-2 miles of aerobic walking. I can’t say that every day is
perfect, but most days are. :)

Are my posts coming through? I have sent in a couple of questions as a newbie, but have never received answers.

Exercise

Monday, July 7th, 2003

How is everyone doing with exercise? I am on a pretty strict
regimen of weights 4 days a week and cardio 5 days a week, at least
until my son was born two weeks ago (ty, ty). I will be back up to
that schedule soon, right now I am about 3 and 3. I have noticed
that my weight changes very little now, like a pound or two every
couple of weeks to a month. I was wondering if anyone knows enough
about muscle physiology to be able to tell me if my muscle gain is
catching up with my fat loss, which is why the weight loss seems so
slow. Also is there a way to estimate how much fat I have lost? So
I know what part of my weight now is muscle, and what is fat. I
have a scale that measures body fat percentage, but I am not so sure
I trust it since it seems to vary by as much as 4% from day to day,
depending upon my hydration. I have noticed that is has gone down
to about 20-23% from the 30-34% where I started…but that is an
estimate only. I am not sure exactly where I started.
thanks for your input…:-)

Estrogen dominance, thyroid, and soy

Friday, July 4th, 2003

I read that some women were having problems with soy. I was wondering what your symptoms were when your body rejected the soy. I love to eat soy chips. I have never had a problem. But I haven’t been eating them lately. I have been swelling and gaining. So maybe my body needs the soy. Please discuss this soy issue more.

snacking probs

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2003

Well, my real problem is popcorn cravings! I love to have it for a
snack and have been snacking on it for years. Not particularly fond
of microwave popcorn (except for kettle corn), but prefer fixing it
on the stovetop.
Thinks I could add it back in at phase 2 or probably 3..once or
twice a week? Right now I’m doing very well with the celery and
cheese snack or cheese stick (cut my own) and hummus…which I love
anyway. So, how many celery sticks constitute a snack? So far I am
sticking with 2 that are maybe 4 or 5 inches long…probably less.
