South Beach beginning 5/24

Friday, September 12th, 2003

Hello,
I start on Monday with a girl from work. My biggest fear isn’t
missing sugar or potatoes, but fruit and yogurt. What I mean is
that I usually eat an apple, banana or a Dannon Lite ‘n Fit yogurt
30-45 minutes prior to working out to keep my enery going. What am
I going to do now???
Has any one had any problems keeping their energy going during a
workout (running or FIRM Cario/Sculpt workouts) while on SB?
Does any one have a suggestion of what to eat since the fruit and
yogurt are out during Phase 1?
Any suggestions or comments would gladly be appreciated!
Thanks,
Kim

Thinking about trying this

Thursday, September 11th, 2003

Greetings Everyone!
My name is Kim, and I live in Chesapeake, VA.
I am thinking about trying the South Beach Diet because I might be
having surgery later this summer, and I know it’s always a good idea
to lose as much extra weight as possible. My husband needs a kidney
transplant, and I might be his donor. I’d like to start off by
losing at least 20 pounds, but the more the better!
I’d like to know if anyone in the group has had any success with the
South Beach diet. I’d also like to know how many people who
are “severely” overweight have tried it and seen results. I am 5′8″
tall and weigh about 252 pounds, so according to the BMI index I’m
considered obese…although I wouldn’t consider myself that!
Thanks for any info you might have to share with me!

Digest Number 96

Monday, September 8th, 2003

I found out that I can eat very large salads since I quit eating bread or other starches with it. We need the salads more than starch. The starch sets off cravings for me. I am into phase 2 and use Ryvita crackers, but just two a day. I am disciplining myself now.

Yes it looks like too many starches at the start of Phase 2. Your husband had about 6 servings? I may be wrong but each slice is considered a serving, and each 1/2 roll is considered a serving. You should start with one serving a day, also try some fruits 1 serving a day and see what happens on the scale. When the scale starts to go up, it means there is too much.

My question is with phase 2 we are eating only what we are suppose to and I am still worried that we are eating to many carbs..

Today Tim had two small sugar free bran muffins I made (no flour, just bran) . For lunch he had an omelette with two pieces of whole wheat bread and a large tossed salad.

For supper he had one large burger with whole wheat bun and large green salad. Is this too much carbs for the first week of phase 2….??

For breakfast I had 1 cp. of oatmeal. For lunch I had a nicely cooked salmon, just caught fresh by my son in law..For supper I had large burger on whole wheat bun, salad and skim milk..

Are we over doing it with the carbs..I am just worried we will not continue to lose.

peanut butter & celery

I can’t stop eatting peanut butter with celery. This must be bad in
some way. I think I consume ΒΌ cup a day. I am also eatting almonds
and pistachios. What should my limit be. I think I am substituting
nut for sugar

20 peanuts(each peanut in the shell contains 2 peanuts) or 1 tsp peanut butter.

You are going way over and people tend to stall when too many nuts are eaten. Did you read the book??

New to Diet

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2003

Hello. I have just finished reading the SBD book and need some
help. Do you have to eat exactly what is on the menu for phase I??
I really don’t like most of what is listed and am looking for
alternative foods that meet the requirements. What about portion
size? Actually I’m pretty confused about what to do. Any
suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
