Welcome all the newbies,
It is good to meet new people.
The South Beach is somewhat different from Atkins, especially since they updated it to include the low-fat dairy and beans. I think his motive in lower fat is the belief it is healthier, although some diet makers debate this. I use olive oil and an oil called Udo, which you do not heat. It has Flax seed oil and other oils that are supposed to be good for you.Crisco and other hydrogenated or partially so are not good for you. It is good to give them up.
South Beach teaches you to use good judgment about portion sizes. They say “normal” sizes.
I usually eat the Ricotta cheese for breakfasts with 1/4 cup nuts.
I need to lose 10 more, and it is difficult because I go on and off phase 1 and have eaten poor choices. Seems some things make me retain water and I weigh more. I know I have not eaten 3,500 calories to gain a pound, and I have experienced gaining two or three pounds in a couple of days of eating wrong things. Then I lose it again fast.
If you have a lot to lose, I would recommend buying a source of recipes, because our worst enemy is boredom in diets.
You can decide it it is worth it to join his club and pay the money.
South Beach does not count carbs. He does not think it necessary. On phase 1 it is lower carb. No starch or fruit in this phase. You get used to lower carb. then you gradually add things back in later phases, but slowly.
