Newby and Files Question

Thursday, December 11th, 2003

Hello,
I’ve just joined the group. The first thing I did was check the Files
section to see if there are any meal plans there and just to see what
kind of information was available.
Hmmm, what I found are files about bisexuals and nude dating… Have
I joined the wrong group? Is this group about the currently popular
South Beach Diet? You know, the healthy way to lose weight??
Thanks for any info,
Dale, FL
(If the moderator would care to not post this and just reply to me
personally, that’s ok. I’ll reintroduce myself in another post.)

new to your group

Tuesday, December 9th, 2003

I am new to your group and new to the SB diet as well. I started on
June 12 and have lost 12 lbs so far. I need to lose weight to make
sure that my baby girl has her mommy around for a very long time. I
have more than 100 lbs to go! I look forward to meeting you,
offering support and sharing recipes via this group.
Thanks for having me here!

South china diet?

Sunday, December 7th, 2003

Hi all,
I’m currently living in China but want to start a low-carb diet. I
tried Atkins several years ago and lost 30 pounds in about 4 months or
so (I’m male, by the way). Naturally, I went off the diet and *poof!*
. . . here I am again.
I actually don’t have the book yet as I will return home in August for
a short visit and will purchase it then. But let me tell you, I think
it will be much more difficult to follow here in China (land of rice
and noodles). The vegetable selection is not so good and I can’t even
identify some of them. No problem finding beef, chicken, pork, eggs,
or cheese. Meat here, by the way, is incredibly cheap and just as
good (or even better) than what I bought in the states!
From what I’ve read online, the first two weeks I basically eliminate
grains, startchy vegetables, sweets, and fruits and I can eat . . .
pretty much anything else? Is that right?
Another challenge in China is that most chinese food is cooked in
sauces and such and I know that many have a high sugar content. I
often cook for myself, but the school I teach at provides free meals
and I will sometimes eat there instead. I think that if I can kick
the bread/rice/noodles/sweetened soda part of my intake, that will a
goodly chunk of the battle.
Any words of wisdom will be appreciated.

New recipes

Friday, December 5th, 2003

If anyone hasn’t gotten the new South Beach Diet cookbook, I highly
recommend it, I have tried several recipes in it, and so far they
have all been very good. It has some new information from the first
book, and lots of variety in the recipes, but most of them have
regular ingredients that you probably already have at home.
Happy Eating!

a couple questions

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2003

Hi All: I have a couple questions. I’m on Phase 2
1)Are raisins allowed?
2)What types of allowed breads have folks found good on the SBD?
What do you look for re: ingredients? Must it say whole wheat flour
or is wheat flour OK?
Thanks for any replies.
