www.allrecipes.com

Friday, April 30th, 2004

Hi Kathleen,
Another question. I went to that site and it’s hugs and there are zillions of
recipes. So I tried to narrow my range to SBD, where it asks if I want to join.
But then I got to suspecting this is the site that one has to pay to use? I
don’t want to pay. Do you pay or is there another way to access only permissible
recipes for the phases?
TIA,
Suzan

I know exactly how you feel. Even now that I lost 13
pounds, my fat clothes feel better but I still have
lots of things from 3 years ago when I first moved to
Germany that I can’t even get a leg into. My friends
tell me I look great and not to worry about losing any
more weight, but I keep looking at my size 4 jeans and
thinking “but I didn’t look anorexic then, it’s not
that crazy of a goal” I’m still going for the size 4
jeans - but I won’t be disappointed if it takes a
while.
In the meantime - the best advice I can give is
www.allrecipes.com. I keep finding surprising recipes
that taste great. Last week, I made a mediteranean
vegetable casserole. It was chopped eggplant sauted
quickly with garlic and olive oil, place in casserole
dish and top with sliced veggies (green pepper,
zuchinni, red onion, mushrooms etc) cover with a can
of chopped tomatoes, salt and loads of parm. cheese
and bake at 350 for 45 minutes - delish!!!
That’s making me hungry - think I’ll go look for more
recipes
Best of luck!!

Parmesan?

Monday, April 26th, 2004

Hi Kathleen,
That recipe sounds delicious.
But I didn’t understand that parmesan cheese was allowed? I thought only low or
no fat cheeses.

Suzan

Low fat cheese?

From: “Lynn” Hi there,
Sorry to answer a question with a question, but I haven’t yet started and am
trying to learn.
I live in Canada and we just don’t have these no fat products in quantity. I saw
no fat sour cream but heard it’s vile. My real question is: what %age of milk
fat would be considered low fat. I make my own goat yogurt and drip it into a
wonderful goat cheese and am wondering. Could anyone give me examples of all
cheeses that would be considered low enough in fat to be acceptable on Phase 1.
TIA,
Suzan
Subject: First week’s grocery shopping
Hi-
I am about to begin on Monday and need some suggestions as to what things I
absolutely have to have to get going. I’ve already figured on:
lettuce
chicken cutlets
deli roast beef
low fat cheese
small pickled hot peppers, (stuffed with prosciutto and provolone)
diet Tropicana lemonade
I already don’t eat sugar, pasta or bread at all, and haven’t for the last 4
years.
All suggestions appreciated.

newbie: figuring out Phase 1 the ‘organic way’

Wednesday, April 21st, 2004

I’m about to start Phase 1 as soon as I finish off the fruit in my
refrigerator, and am trying to figure out my options for a organic
poultry/wild-caught fish only, organic-only Phase 1. I don’t eat
chemicals whenever possible either….so the fake sugar substitute is
out. I notice that lemon and lime juice is included in some of the
recipes in the South Beach Diet books, so wondered if I can use that
in my organic fat-free/sugar-free yogurt (which is allowed)? My usual
breakfast is non-fat/no-sugar yogurt, fruit and a dash of organic
nuts/seeds (like sunflower seeds or almonds). Other meals will be
easy….I just can’t do breakfasts that are heavy on eggs and low-fat
meats which is what the diet plan seems to concentrate on.
Also, I’m surprised that red pepper is allowed. I’ll be eating that
daily for 2 weeks as it’s so nice and sweet it satisfies my sweet tooth!

Low Carb Milk

Sunday, April 18th, 2004

For those of you who drink milk:
I lost eight pounds in two weeks on Phase 1, then three pounds the
first two weeks of Phase 2, when I was slowly adding carb back in –
and then nothing for five weeks. I decided to cut back on the
carbs, especially milk. I was drinking about 9 glasses of fat-free
milk per week; I cut back to none, and also cut my starchy carbs
(oatmeal, whole grain bread and pasta, brown rice) by about half; I
continued to eat one or two pieces of fruit/day. I lost five pounds
in a week. I added back most of the starchy foods, and continued to
lose one or two pounds a week. BUT — as soon as I added milk back
in, my weight loss stopped. About four weeks ago, I discovered Hood
Carb Countdown Dairy Beverage — it’s made from milk, but they take
the lactose out and replace it wilth artificial sweetener. I can
drink a couple of glasses per day, and still continue to lose
weight! I buy it at Trader Joe’s; I’ve only looked for it in one of
the supermarkets (Ralph’s) and haven’t found it there. If you don’t
have a Trader Joe’s near you, check Hood’s website –
www.hphood.com — they say it’s “at retailers nationwide.” It’s
Atkins approved. I’ve only seen the 2%, but their website says they
have regular and fat-free also — and chocolate.

Hi everyone- I’m new

Friday, April 16th, 2004

I am 22 year old female from Israel.I bought the SBD book after I’ve
heard so many good things about it.I weight 143 pounds and my height
is 5′8.some of you will say that I’m not overweight but trust me I am
and people that are close to me started seeing it.eventually every
individual have to live with his body and right now I feel so full
and sleazy.
I’ve started the SBd plan 3 times.First time I made it for only one
week and I lost some weight and felt good but I don’t know why I
didn’t go on with it.second time I lost control on the third day and
last week i’ve tried to start it all over again but I can’t!!!
I don’t eat fish so tuna salads I can’t eat, ricotta cheese i hate
and steaks I eat once in a couple of months only when we have
barbeque.Everytime I start this diet, I’m feeling so happy but
hungry. I try to find different options of things to eat but I feel
guilty that I can’t do the SBD as it was written, I strat to think
that I probably wont lose weight.I get freaked out…that’s the
bottom line.I eat the same thing day after day and get bored from the
un varied food.
in past month I gained so much weight.I usually weight 132 pounds but
now I can’t reach that spot.from my experiences in diets, I always
lose weight and get to 132 and then I’m stock, I can’t go under 132.
I’m starting second year at college íî the 17th of october and my
dream was to get back into shape and weight 17 pounds less.
PLEASE HELP ME GET ON TRACK

hello everyone- i’m new

Thursday, April 15th, 2004

I need so much encouragement…
I am 22 years old from Israel.I bought the book after hearing so many
good things about it.I weight 143 pounds and my height is
5′8.Although people that hear this data about me might say I’m not
overweight, but I am (trust me on this one).I tried to follow SBD but
I can’t stick to it.I don’t have a problem not eatting sweets, junk
food or carbs, The problem is that everytime I start the SBD I am
hungry! I don’t eat tuna or any kinds of fish, steaks I don’t eat as
well.I find myself hungry, tired and then I try to find other
options.when I find an option I eat the same thing day after day and
get bored and not satisfied and then when someone eats pizza or
chineese food I eat with him and lose control.last week in a couple
of days doing the SBD I lost 1.3 pounds, and one day I felt like I’m
not progressing so I ate so much and now I am 4 pounds more!!!
I feel full & sleazy… my goal was to get back to college ,17 pounds
less.I have only one month to lose some weight and I can’t do it.I
usually do diets and reach 132 pounds and get stuck on that weight ,
now nothing works and I can’t reach 132 pounds.so frustrating.
Help me get on track…please
