First week’s grocery shopping

Wednesday, April 14th, 2004

Hi-
I am about to begin on Monday and need some suggestions as to what things I
absolutely have to have to get going. I’ve already figured on:
lettuce
chicken cutlets
deli roast beef
low fat cheese
small pickled hot peppers, (stuffed with prosciutto and provolone)
diet Tropicana lemonade
I already don’t eat sugar, pasta or bread at all, and haven’t for the last 4
years.
All suggestions appreciated.

7th Day and having problems

Sunday, April 11th, 2004

I will be starting my 7th day tomorrow. I’ve been doing pretty well
until today. I don’t think I can eat another salad, egg, ricotta
cheese desert, etc.
What can I do? I don’t like hardly anything listed in Phase I.

Clinton and SBD

Saturday, April 10th, 2004

Well, considering he has been notorious for years about his fast food diet,
stories of the junk foods that he ate for years and how the kitchen in the
residence had to restock with stuff that he HAD to have, guess that’s a pretty
good example of how just a few months of the diet cannot undo decades of poor
diet….and then to ignore his medication (i’m guessing in his words “because I
could”), add to that the genetic history, it was simply a matter of time….and
a really good example for us on how we need to be diligent in our diets (SBD or
not), and get involved in our personal health and medical care.
Okay, that was more like 4 cents worth ;) Susan

new to SBD

Mindy,

Sorry to hear you felt shaky this morning. It could be the adjustment to the different foods but I do have a few suggestions you might want to try. First, you should never be truly hungry and if you are you really need to - and are supposed to - eat. Just pick something from the approved food list. Increase the size of your snacks and add a veggie to your snacks. A stick of celery, green or red pepper, tomato, etc., would be good. Or, a lettuce leaf, a slice of turkey or ham and a piece of cheese would make a more filling snack for you than just a piece of cheese. Second, make sure your portions at dinner are big enough, primarily by increasing the veggie portions. You shouldn’t still be hungry when you finish dinner. The last thing is drink lots and lots of water. Your problem this morning may have been caused by dehydration.

A lot of people report queasiness, etc., for a few days and it should pass. Personally I didn’t so I can’t speak from experience there.

Good luck.

Bill Clinton and the SBD

Saturday, April 3rd, 2004

Oh great, now the media keeps tossing out there that Bill Clinton
was on the South Beach Diet and now he just had a triple bypass!!
Yikes!! I think this really sounds like a good diet so I hate for
it to get a bad rap because of Bill. I mean after all, the man had
chest pains for a month and didn’t go to the doctor and he quit
taking his cholesterol medicine…..sheesh…
Just need to get that out….LOL
Oh and I am a newbie, just starting out and I don’t know how I am
ever going to get away from the sugar ;-) ~L
