Wraps
Friday, May 28th, 2004Hi All,
I know that the book says that pita bread is allowed in Phase 2. What
about wraps?
Thanks.
Hi All,
I know that the book says that pita bread is allowed in Phase 2. What
about wraps?
Thanks.
I know this question sounds totally lame, but I live in Canada and so
many of the foods in the book are just not available. An additional
restriction is that I have Crohn’s which is under control, but I cannot
eat beans (other than string beans) and cannot eat certain gassy veggies
like the whole cabbage family, turnips, radishes. I can eat string
beans, zucchini, carrots, bell peppers, winter squash, mushrooms and
baby spinach. And I can eat a fresh salad each day with greens,
cucumber, tomato. And I have begun to do well with some fresh fruit:
orange, pineapple, blueberries and other things peeled and/or cooked. If
only I could still eat a whole bowl of cauliflour or broccoli, I know
I’d feel full at least.
The book says not to measure portions, but if I’m working on my
cholesterol, don’t I need to cut out the eggs and have smallish portions
of even lean protein?
I can buy regular cuts of meat, but not ground chicken or turkey, nor
turkey sausage. So I am seeing this depressing picture of endless
chicken breasts. I try to buy organic but cannot afford organic chicken
breasts: only the whole chicken is affordable. Chicken is so full of
hormones and antibiotics so that worries me.
Also, I’m worried about eggs as I just learned my cholesterol is high
and my doctor wants me to lower it and retest in a few months. It’s
usually fine…….and my HDL is excellent and so are the triglycerides.
I attribute it to eating more meat in the summer as we grilled meat and
veggies outdoors and I ate no grains. I lost weight but my LDL went up.
It’s just slightly high according to him, but I do want to take care of
it. So that ruins so many of the recipes. And I am doing well
healthwise with my HDL high (due to some almonds, avocado, fatty fish
and olive oil).
The cheese is also hard. Can someone give me a list of all known low fat
cheeses that are naturally low fat, because where I live they don’t have
these fat free brands. The best I’ve seen are things like “partially
skimmed milk” for ricotta or 1% cottage cheese. But nothing is fat free.
And for the cholesterol issue, I’ve come to rely on almond butter rather
than cheese as a protein/fat sustaining food. Considering I can’t eat
everything on the diet, I am wondering if I can change some things for
other things that are of a similar nature. Would anyone know?
Also, phase 1 says no dairy and then he describes day one with some low
fat milk in one’s coffee! Which is it?
If someone could just give me an idea of one day’s possible eating I’d
really appreciate it.
Now I eat something like yogurt, blueberries and almonds in a smoothie
for a sustaining breakfast, canned fish (wild salmon, sardines) or
chicken with a slice of nut bread for lunch, an orange for snack, lean
meat for dinner with a salad, a low carb veggie like zucchini and a high
carb veggie like butternut squash for sustenance (otherwise I’d be
starving as I can’t eat unlimited amounts of more ffibrous veggies) and
after dinner, if I’m hungry, a fruit like pineapple and/or dry curd
cottage cheese (this is a naturally fat free cheese, also called
Farmer’s cheese) and/or some almond or peanut butter with it.
TIA,
Suzan
I think in the book Dr. A says its ok to stay on phase 1 past the two weeks but not recommended to do for too long.
WOW Guys!!!
I only had the one drink over the weekend during my gig and I can
already see that alcohol really stymies your weight loss. When I was
having the occasional drink, my weight loss either stopped or I
gained at least 2 pounds….but since last Saturday (it’s now
Wednesday), I have dropped 5 pounds! This has really given me the
incentive not to take that drink until I am allowed to! I plan to
stay on Phase 1 for at least 3 weeks, which is when I have my 35th
Birthday Doctor’s Visit. My blood pressure has been kinda high, so I
am watching my salt intake and exercising to get it down. I don’t
want to take any medications, so I am trying to make sure I am okay
for my doctor’s visit….10 pounds gone and 15 to go by October
20th. Wish me luck and thanks to everyone for their advice!!!
By the way, is it okay to stay on Phase 1 for three weeks????? Will I
still have the rapid weight loss (5 lbs per week) in the 3rd week?

I borrowed the book from a co-worker and I started Thursday of last
week. I am doing great as far as the foods, but the alcohol, well
that’s another thing. I sing in a band and I am in night clubs at
least 2 weekends a month…& I usually have a couple of rum & diet
colas…I only drank one the past weekend…and that’s only because
the manager brings the band drinks between sets and I was awfully
thirsty…but I did refuse the 2nd drink. I noticed with just that
one drink, my weight crept back up about 1 to 2 pounds. I know
You’re not supposed to weigh everyday, but I just need to know how
different things affect me. I saw a commercial that said rum w/diet
coke, has no carbs, if this is true then why is it a NO-NO on Phase
1 ???
Hi, can you repost this URL…it doesn’t work and when I copy and paste it I get
to a place which leads me to the place to register and pay each week…..or is
that what you meant it to do? I had thought it was a free site?
TIA,
Suzan

You could use lemon/lime juice in small quantities to give some zip
to your yogurt, but I’d suggest you give serious thought to
expanding your breakfast choices. For one thing, look for a way to
add vegetables that will be enjoyable. For me, that was omelets,
but if you don’t like eggs, you’ll need to figure something else
out. Also, I don’t know what a “dash” of nuts is; make sure you get
enough fat/oil to keep you satisfied. And there’s no reason not to
eat fish or poultry for breakfast. Use any of the allowed foods
that you like. One of the things that Phase 1 did for me was break
my habit of “needing” sweetness with my breakfast.
A website that has an up-to-date food list, along with a much more
basic (and therefore, to me, more useful) guide to what you should
eat at each meal is http://www.southbeach-diet-
plan.com/index.html . It also has shopping lists, tips, and a
discussion forum.
Well that explains why it tastes sweet. Just bought it last night at Super G. and decided to taste it, expecting it to be horrible. I was pleasantly surprised…but did state that “oh it tastes sweet”. I’m used to drinking fat free. Calorie wise, you only save 10 but there is more protein and less carbs. I don’t know if I’d drink it, but I love hot chocolate (I use the one made with Splenda) and it should work well with my oatmeal. I don’t have to lose weight, just trying to eat healthy.

For those of you who drink milk:
Hello to all! I am new to this group but have been on this diet for
30 weeks…. very long! In the first two weeks I lost 14 pounds then
lost 3 pounds the next week and 2 the next…. I then stalled out for
5 weeks. I then broke my foot a couple weeks later and lost 5
pounds, I am guessing it’s the muscle to fat ratio from lack of
walking and excersizing. My grandparents came to visit and I
endulged myself a little and gained 5 pounds back, I also started
walking a little….
After they left my mom and I went back on phase 1 and still didn’t
lose anything… I don’t understand why I can’t lose anymore weight.
Just wondering if anyone else is having or has had the same thing
happen to them…
I go back to my orthopedic surgeon this week and hopefully he says I
can go back to the gym… which I hope will rev my metabolism up and
burn those extra pounds back off….
Some say I might not be able to lose anymore because I am at my ideal
weight but I have been 10 pounds lighter at this height and just
don’t get it…. Sorry I am a little dicouraged today!! I am 5′8″
and started at 148 and want to get down to at least 125. I would
appreciate any comments!! Thanks!
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Laura
Im new, so forgive me if You have already said this but.. Have you
tried the SBD cookbook? It was a lifesaver for me. I was getting so
sick of the same things over and over and when I found the cookbook it
was like a whole new world opened up for me. I felt like I was REALLY
eating and not just putting foods together that fit the plan.
