HELLO! New Guy from Massachusetts!

Tuesday, September 28th, 2004

Hi
My name is Rod and I just started the diet on the first of the
year. I am doing Phase One now and it is pretty tough giving up so
many of my favorite foods, but I weighed in today at 176, so I have
already lost 5 lbs since I began on January 3. That inspires me to
continue. I am 32 years old, 5′10″ and I would like to weigh in at
163 or, when I dream big, 158 - my college weight. I had been
wearing a 34waist because I had gotten so big, but am already
feeling more like my 32waist self. I would love to be back in 31s
by summer.
I am new to dieting but after about 5 years of gaining 3 pounds a
year I find myself weighing 15 pounds more than I am comfortable
with. This year as I work on my dissertation, my lifestyle has
befome even more sedentary and I recognize the importance of
changing my eating habits.
I planned all of my meals for the entirety of Phase One before I
began the diet, so that I knew exactly what to shop for and could
prepare things ahead of time and, so far, that has helped to keep me
on the straight and narrow. Also, I enjoy cooking, so I have been
making many of the dishes in the book and cookbook - I especially
enjoyed the coconut chicken, the sirloin au poivre (though 4oz
seemed awfully small for a meat portion) and the chicken dish made
with the stouffers spinach.
I am not sure if hummus is on the plan for phase one - but I did eat
a little bit today as my afternoon snack. I am so used to eating an
apple every day that I really do miss my fruit - but I figure in 10
days I can have it again.
I would appreciate any support and will post pics as soon as I can
figure out how!

New to SB 3rd shift worker

Monday, September 27th, 2004

Does anyone have any suggestions on working 3rd shift and South
Beach. I sleep from 8am -2pm and make a South Beach meal for my
family for their dinner, do I eat my breakfast or their dinner?
Does the meals need to be eaten in order to work correctly?

Hi Abra,

Here’s the deal….as soon as your mind tells your body you’re going on a diet…you want everything. You’re testing yourself. You’re trying to talk yourself into failure but don’t give in. You know in the cartoons when someone has two little heads in their shoulders? You know…the good on one side and the bad on the other? Do whatever you need to do…go for a walk, read a book, watch a movie, stay on line…it’s hard to eat and type at the same time. Call a friend, whatever. Show yourself just how strong you can be. Ignore those cravings and you’ll be SO proud of yourself!!! It’s NOT easy but you can do this. Baby steps. One at a time. Just hang in there. Do anything that has nothing to do with food. Just keep telling yourself YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Be really positive and you attractive positive energies to yourself. ok?
Take care,
Sharon

New to group :)

Hi Everyone,
I am not only new to the group but also to the SBD. I started on Monday and
have
succeeded on staying the diet. I am having troubles with grocery shopping.
Everything all of the sudden seems so tempting. I love the recipes but can’t
get rid
of the urge to eat and now can’t stop thinking about food. Also, I am very
grumpy but
that may be my normal nature.
Anyway, I am looking for some support and hope that I have come to the right
place.

Energy

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

Today is my 3rd day in Phase 1. After the kids went to school, I
laid down in bed (9:30am) thinking I would take just a short nap.
Well, when I woke up, it was 2:10pm! I was just so tired, I
couldn’t believe it. Has anyone else had this experience?
Other than that strange event, the everything else is ok. I’m
eating right, I think. I do feel a little hungry sometimes, but I’m
not starving or anything.
Thanks!

Phase One Question

Saturday, September 11th, 2004

I have a quick question. I am on day four of the diet, and I’ve been
having a hard time with the jello. I’ve always hated jello, and just
can’t quite get it down. I was wondering if anyone knows if it’s
acceptable to substitute the jello included in the diet for sugar-
free pudding, rather than just cutting this food altogether.
Thanks,
Lori

soy flour question

Friday, September 10th, 2004

I am fairly new to this diet and was wondering if anyone has tried
any recipes using soy flour instead of regular flour to make them
more low carb and how did they turn out and taste? I would really
like to find a low carb, low fat, high protein type muffin recipe
that has a lot of flavor appeal. Can anyone help me out with a good
recipe that would be helpful in Phase 2 or 3 of the diet? I really
miss the breads on this diet but I am eating alot better than I used
to in the past. Thanks for any help and really enjoy reading the
other posts. Marlene (lost 16 lbs so far)

Hey everyone. I’ve created a folder and added some of my favorite
recipes that I’ve been using. Feel free to add as I’d love to start
a recipe exchange. I just get SO bored with the same ol same ol and
I’m just not as creative as a lot of other people!

Hi, I just joined

Monday, September 6th, 2004

Hi, I’m Katie and I thought it would be really cool to join this
group since I’m also a member of the MSN South Beach Diet group as
well. I posted a picture in the picture gallery of me as of today. I
know I don’t look that big but I really feel that I am. It especially
shows when I sit or wear t-shirts. I’m 5 foot tall and wiegh close to
130 pounds. The average weight for someone my height is 100-115
pounds. I would like to lose 15 pounds for my goal and I’m going to
do it by doing Power 90 (which is wonderful but I haven’t done it in
a year) and eating healthier foods. In the past I have been an
extreme procrastinator but I can see that I’ve gained at least 5
pounds in the past month and it scares me because my family has
problems with extreme obesity, diabetes and heart problems and I
never want to go there.
Hopefully this group will help me :) Katie
