Medicine’s?

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

I am also on Lexapro amoungst others. I am having a hard time
losing the weight as well. I really need to get motivated and get
on the treadmill or take a walk outside. Even if only 15-20 minutes
a day, but it is hard when you have Chronic Depressive
Disorder/Social Anxiety and have to take several medicines.
I know how you feel Amy, but I feel even if I dont lose weight as
quickly as I should, I am eating healthier and that definately helps
my health.

Re salad dressings

I use either Carb Well salad dressings, or olive oil and red wine (or
balsamic) vinegar. (the latter is great to ask for at restaurants). I use
more vinegar than oil.

Get a Taste of Nutrition
The following Daily Dish is part of a series for National Nutrition
Month
National Nutrition Month 2005 emphasizes improving health by
adopting a varied diet and regular exercise routine. Sponsored by
the American Dietetic Association, this yearly observance aims to
educate and inspire with a few simple components:
Choose variety. A varied diet is both nutritious and exciting. Try
different foods that please your taste buds while ensuring you get
the proper vitamins and minerals.
Be sensible. Changing your diet does not mean you have to deprive
yourself of your favorite foods. Eating good food is meant to be a
pleasure. You can adapt your favorite recipes to be South Beach-
friendly and eat special treats on rare occasions.
Stay active. Regular exercise will help you maintain a healthy
weight while promoting cardiovascular fitness. And remember that
exercise doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive walking,
dancing, and gardening can be just as beneficial. Find a few
activities you enjoy and make a commitment to do them.

medicines?

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

Yes, everyone is different with meds. On the same medicine one might gain and
one might loose. I have tried about everything my doctor can think of. So she
is sending me to a therapist to find something else. She says they have more
options. She has been very nice about understanding that I need help with my
depression…but weight gain is also bad for me. Hope everyone else can get the
help they need, and thanks for responding to my original question!

Hi, I am a day away from Phase II and was wondering if there is
a “good” cereal to eat and stay on the plan?

rapid weight loss?

Friday, March 11th, 2005

Has anyone experienced rapid weight loss on this diet? Do people lose
weight rapidly at first then it tapers off? I’m asking because I started
the diet last Friday and as of this morning’s weigh-in, I have lost 9 lbs.
I will probably lose another pound by tomorrow morning’s weigh-in.
I figure my body’s just dealing with the loss of starch, grain and fruit and
that once I go to phase 2 the weight will drop more slowly. Is this true?
I was going to stay on phase 1 until I lost 25 lbs. then go to phase 2 to
lose the other 25 that I want to lose.
Of course, this is because summer is coming and I’d like to try for a
two-piece this year instead of the black, one-piece that I’ve been wearing
for years.

Antidepressants/Mame

Monday, March 7th, 2005

Hi Mame,
Thanks for that information. Would you know if tofranil, a tricylic
antidepressant (the type that precedes the newer ones like Prozac, etc.)
in any way has an effect on weight?
Thanks in advance,
Suzan

Weight gain is a possible side effect of Lexapro. Have you considered
asking your doctor if you could try a different antidepressant?

medicines?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2005

I am so glad to see the group finally get active! I have a question…is anyone
taking medication(s) having trouble loosing the weight? I have been so
disappointed that in about 8 weeks I am still only down 10 lb!!! I am still
sticking to it, and am thankful for the 10 I lost…but feel like giving up!
The only thing I can think of that is hindering me is that I am on Lexapro
(antidepressant). I tried to break it in half to see if I could handle
life…but I have too much anxiety without it so I went back to my regular
strength. I still have 35 lb I want to loose and I am starting to think it is
impossible :( Amy
