New to South beach ~ Help!

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

Hello!
My name is Jen and I just started South Beach today. I have four
children and have gained about 50 extra pounds over the past 5
years. I not only want to lose weight to look better, but for health
reasons as well! I would really like to gain some friends that are
in the same situation, not only to share information with, but to
have some other women to hold myself accountable to. Maybe a group
that enters weekly weigh-ins or something to help keep me motivated.
If anyone out there would like to help me, I would greatly
appreciate it. I am in phase one and could use some menu ideas.
Thanks!

Just started South Beach (newbie)

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

Hi everyone,
I am new and just started the South Beach Diet. I have pre-diabetes
and want to do something about it before I turn 40. My weight is at
an all time high after losing 30 pounds last year on Atkins. I
enjoyed doing Atkins but once I ate a “carb”, the diet fell apart.
I like what I have read about South Beach and am impressed that I
can eventually add in whole grain products in moderation. When I
did Atkins, my blood cholesterol levels got much closer to normal
and I really felt good but you have to wonder with the high fat
content allowed on Atkins if you are doing long term damage to the
heart. I had gallbladder problems at the time so I actually stayed
more low fat on Atkins which is a big no-no. I am here to learn
more about the diet and hopefully get and share support. I have
about 40 pounds to lose.

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

Hi Group,
My name is Rachael and I’ve been on this diet for about a week now
and I’ve just been melting off the pounds. It’s a miracle. Today
was bad because they brought pizza to work and I just had to leave
the room to resist temtation! I refuse to fail. I just am here to
get some good ideas and some support when the times get rough. Good
luck to everyone else!

Phase 3 help, anybody??

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

I had to drop out of the online group because I got too busy at work
to go online more than once a week, therefore wasn’t getting benefit
of the meal plans or message boards, and had reached my goal. Didn’t
feel like paying for another quarter. HOWEVER, I realized that I had
no clue as to what to add back to be on phase 3 and yet not gain
weight. There’s already soooooooo much food on phase 2 that I don’t
eat all of IT and don’t know what to change or add back.
That’s why I joined this group - with almost 1000 members, I thought
somebody might have some experience? Meanwhile, I’ve lost another 3
pounds while on phase 3, and I don’t want either to lose OR gain more
weight. How do you maintain while on phase 3? What do you do
differently? I’m hoping somebody in a group this big will know!!!
Thanks -
Gail

Daily Dish - March 11, 2005

The Importance of Breakfast
The Importance of Breakfast [3/11/05]
The following Daily Dish is part of a series for National School
Breakfast Week
Adults are not the only ones who benefit from nutritious and regular
breakfasts. Research has shown that children who eat breakfast
perform better on tests, spend less time in the nurse’s office, and
achieve better grades. Why is breakfast so important?
Here are just a few reasons why children should be encouraged to eat
breakfast:
Improves performance. The brain needs fuel to function at its peak.
Eating a balanced breakfast makes it easier to concentrate, to
remember things, and to be in a good mood.
Reduces obesity. Children (and adults, for that matter) who skip
breakfast are more likely to overeat at other times during the day
due to hunger.
Improves nutrition. Many foods eaten at breakfast are good sources
of calcium, fiber, vitamins C and D, and iron. Skipping breakfast
will make it harder to assure proper nutrition.
Send your kids off with a running start and they’ll be sure to
succeed later. Make breakfast a family priority!
