Kraft SBD Cereal

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

I bought some of the Kraft SBD cereal and notice that it contains
sugar and has 21g of total carbs, 4g of fiber! That doesn’t seem
right. I also bought the low carb Special K which has no sugar and
only 9g of carbs. Anybody know what’s going on?

Egg allergy question

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

I’m going to be starting the South Beach Diet soon. I have a couple of
questions. I am allergic to eggs and that plays such a big part of the
breakfast. I cannot even eat the egg white products out there on the
market. Does anyone have some good ideas for breakfast that would work
and be filling, especially for Phase 1??
Also, has anyone ever done this diet and been nursing a baby? I would
assume that I would just need to increase some good snacks a bit since
this diet doesn’t count calories. Any helpful hints with this?
thanks!

diabetics?

Any one here type 2 diabetic doing SBD?

General mesage to all

Monday, July 25th, 2005

My thing was for some crunch. You know like potato chips. I find what helps that go away is radishes that I have cleaned and then put in filtered water and allowed to chill real good in my computer. Radishes are a free vegetable and I can eat what I want. It really works towards getting rid of the crunchy cravings.

PS to those in Phase 2, the SBD Kraft items are a good deal. I have had a wrap and a frozen dinner. They will help in more ways then one. They will show you a good portion size so that you can get your portion sizes down. I have also found it I use the salad plate that comes with a dish set, they are about 8 inchs in diameter, it helps me to keep my portions where they belong. I use a pasta bowl that Corelle puts out, it is about 10 inches in diameter and has isn’t very deep to have my daily salad in. I eat my dinner salad 20 minutes before my dinner. What has happened is that I fill up with this and when dinner comes it is easier to stay with the small portions.

I also have found that drinking something prior to eating helps with the not getting enough to eat. I try to drink a 20 oz decaf coffee drink that I stole from Starbucks. I make 3 shots of espresso ( about 3 ozs of espresso. I use 3/4 C of non fat milk which I steam and froth, I then add 2 oz of sugar free Vanilla syrup, and then I have my espresso, milk and syrup with 2 sweet and low packets. If it is hot outside then I pour it over ice, ( but I add a 4th shot of espresso to keep the coffee taste) and drink it that way. If it is cold outside then I drink it hot. This drink is great because when you look at the individual items to put into the mix When I look up the calories I find that a Vente size ( the largest) Vanilla Latte has with nonfat milk is 190 Calories with 31 Carbs with 0 sugars. You can lower the carbs by having soy milk but your fats and calories go up. I make this at home now and I can’t tell the difference so I have it at least once a day. Since
I am not counting calories and just Carbs and sugars I have found that it is just about the same as some other drinks. I don’t like water or diet coke. I kinda like diet Dr. Pepper and 7-UP. But not as much as I like this drink. I use decaf to stay away fromt the caffine, but I have always use decaf.

I have lost over 28 lbs in 8 weeks on the diet. I am not hungry, but I am trying to break some bad habits. I tend to eat late at night watching TV and I am trying to stop that. That is when radishes come in handy.

Good luck to all of you. If I can do it so can you.

I weighed 263.6 and now I weigh 235.2. I am 50 years old and I have failed at many diets before. This is the real deal for me. I am so thankful for this diet. I now will be around to see my 10 month old granddaughter get married, and to celebrate all the other things with my total of 10 grandkids. You can do it. I will believe in you and you can borrow that belief from me when you are low.

Hello,
My name is Kathy and I started south beach today. I did the phase I
once before a month ago and lost 10 lbs, but 3 weeks of guests and
no exercise took me right back to where I was. So today I start the
phase I fresh and excited. I am feeling a bit tired and low because
of the suger withdrawal but I am going to ignore it and have celery
sticks instead.
I was to lose 60 lbs so looking forward to it. My brother and his
wife have been on this diet for a month or two and have not had too
much of weight loss but since it is really making them feel healthy,
they are continuing with it.
So looking forward to the success stories and tips on how to stay
motivated.
thanks
Kathy

Are we allowed to have it in Phase 1?

Weight Watcher into So. Beachers

Saturday, July 16th, 2005

I too did WW, very successfully long ago (before points!!)—then when
I had gained all the weight back, plus—tried it again—and I found
I just could not stick to it! All I THOUGHT about was food, and how
many points something was, etc. I find that South Beach is much less
obsessive—I have lost 37 pounds since starting (started at 248) and
would like to lose about 35-40 more. I am no longer in my thirties
(62), so I think a slightly higher goal weight will be a better and
more stable line to hold!
I like to cook, so all the recipes offered here and elsewhere, plus my
own variations of favorites keep me from being bored. And I am able
to focus on things other than food—gardening, artwork, and my day
job of caring for my 2 granddaughters. Incidentally—cottage cheese
“rice” pudding is awesome—I add nonfat yogurt to the basic lo-fat
cottage cheese, vanilla, Splenda mix and top with Cool-whip—you’d
think you were cheating!

This is for general info

This is just a general message to everyone. I love the SBD and I know one of the reasons it has worked for me was the online access to meal plans and advice. I use the 5 dollars a week that I spend on the online service to make me take my diet seriously. My DH of 30 plus years counts every penny that goes in and out of our budget and 5 dollars is something that we take seriously if it is going to be wasted. So I make sure I stay on the diet and make sure that I lose and therefore the 5 bucks is well spent. I recommend it for everyone to join the online South Beach Diet support. I have asked questions of the experts and found out what I could and could not have. I have the cookbook and the book, but the online is the thing that stays alive for me.

I hope everyone is giving this diet a chance. I have lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks, and for me that is a miracle because I don’t like to deprive myself of anything, ( That is how I got up to 264 lbs!) I have tried diets over the years and this is the first one that worked. It is not just a diet- meaning just to lose weight- but a lifestyle diet meaning to eat this way forever.

I walked with a cane just 7 weeks ago, and losing the 25 lbs has freed me from that. I am not hungary and I feel one hundred percent better.

Hey if I can do it, anyone can!!!

bad night friday night

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

Hi Elise,
Start over, it’s ok. Have you lost any? I think once you start to loose that
really helps motivate you to keep going. I am at a stand still…stay at a loss
of between 17-20 lb. But I am going to start excercising, and I think that will
help. I feel so much better on this diet that even if I don’t loose like I want
I am staying on it. I just bought a box of those granola bars…lol. They did
have some sugars…but I didn’t even look at that until after I ate one! I am
in phase 2 and figure I won’t eat them every day.

bad night friday night

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Hi - I blew it to a carb overload last night. I am starting to wonder
if I am capable of lasting the two weeks of phase I. My sister made
it and she had more weight to lose than I do. I guess it doesn’t help
to beat myself up over it. So…
I have started over this morning, A new day. How is everyone else
doing and at what stage is everyone?
I saw South Beach bars in the granola bar section of my supermarket,
but they must be for stage 3.
