Shirley

I cannot really answer your question as I am also trying to get information
about what specific dairy products are allowed in which phase, since this has
changed since the book was written.
However, I can say that it sounds good for some phase. I don’t know if you are
allowed that cheese stick or the ricotta in phase 1, nor if it should be reduced
fat, non fat or just the normal mozarella sticks. Where I lived, reduced-ricotta
is 7%. They sell another brand that’s 5% and it’s awful. The texture is not
nice. I’ve never bought the full fat either. The 7% seems to be the standard one
sold in cottage cheese style containers. What about cottage cheese, yogurt and
parmesan? I don’t know either, am very confused.
Hope this helps and that we both get some clearer answers,
Suzan

Shirley, I’m still trying to figure it out and see if I can help.
From what I know, you shouldn’t have that butter. And I *think* only reduced fat
mozarella cheese sticks are the ones allowed, but I don’think in phase 1.

Hello,
My wife and I just started on the diet. She started a couple of days
before me. Yesterday she felt terrible. Headache, light headed and
lathargic. Today she feels fine but I felt like yuk. Is this just
the
initial withdrawl? Anyone else have this feeling?

Hi my name is Shirley, I have just decided to do the south beach, I
have been doing weight watchers for years, it has helped me maintain
my weight, now I need to start losing . talked to my cardiologost the
other day, he told me to go on phase 3 of the south beach, so I bought
the book. In reading I have decided I my as well stat with phase one,
what have I to lose but weight?
There are three other lady’s at work that are going to start with me.
Because I am not one to set my self up for defeat. I am starting June 1
Tell me what is this site about ? DO WE POST JOURNALS/ do we have or

It could be wrong

and it would be a good question for Dr. Agatson. Makers Diet has
come out with the new information on coconut oil and makes it a part
of their diet and then there is the “The Coconut Diet” book out.
What you are saying is what they maintain was part of the bad rap the
oil was given but that will take time to correct. It is only the
virgin coconut oil that is naturally processed that is good. The
medical field is cautious and reactionary, as I’m sure Dr. Agatson
would be the first one to agree on that. He has been a real
activator in making changes but sure it was not that easy for him.
I am just starting to use the Olive Oil now with the start of this
diet though I have known how healthy it was for many years. I just
didn’t like the taste but am forcing myself to overcome that. I
should try the macadamia nut for I never have.
Forgive me for posting so quickly as I did. I just related very much
to someone who has a family with a genetic leaning to something that
you have to live with from year to year. My grandmother died when
she was 42, my Aunt when she was 48 and my Mother at 56, with kidney
failure.
I have lived thinking will this year be the last since I was 2l! But
it caused me to be very health concious all my life actually and
probably that is not a bad thing. I am now 74 actually but people
think I am 54 for I don’t show my age and the Doctor says my blood
profile checks out better than most people in their 50s. But I do
have a weight problem that would be oh so much worse if I didn’t
watch myself closely. And am planning to stick to the South Beach
rules for I have seen how well it has worked for friends….

Day Four, Losing Weight, but Tired

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

Hi all,
Well, I’m in the 4th day of my confinement, and I’ve lost a couple of
pounds, and although it may be my imagination, I think my clothes are
fitting better. I’ve been fairly zealous about following the
guidelines, but I’m finding that I’m very tired. I went home at noon
yesterday and took a nap. Anybody else experiencing this, and will it
get better? I’m thinking that a big piece of warm apple pie with ice
cream melting over it would make me feel better, but I know better.

Question about Dairy

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

Hello,
It’s a while since I read the book and on this list have heard of so
many changes made by Dr Agaston, so I’d greatly appreciate it if someone
could re-clarify some info regarding dairy on the different phases.
I had initially understood phase 1 to contain lean protein meats, eggs,
and low starch veggies for carbs. NO fruit, NO dairy. And 10 nuts per day.
Thanks in advance,
Suzan
