Hi, I’m new!

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Hi, my name is Dee and I’m just starting phase two of the South Beach
Diet. I lost seven pounds during phase one so I’m pretty pleased with
how things are going so far. I lost 38 pounds in three months on
Atkins a few years back, but I decided to try South Beach this time
since you get to eat a few more of my favorite things on this one.
I’m 54, live in a small town in northeast Ohio with my husband and 11
year old daughter. I also have another daughter who is 25. My older
daughter and I are both doing the diet so we are constantly comparing
notes!
I’m anxious to read more of the board and get some new ideas and recipes.

40+ , having babies and nursing

Me too. I started again at 6 weeks p-partum; lots of estrogen .. and estrogen causes weight gain. So, we’re dealing with estrogen and pregesterone.

Keep in touch. If you find something that works for you, please share it with me(us).

Becky ~

I lost well until my period came back at 3 months post partum. My periods always come back early after I have my babies, even though they are exclusively breast feeding. With my period came 20 pounds.

Hi! I’m new here.

Hello! My name is Amy. I am 24 and a recent college graduate from
Alabama. I am thinking about trying the South Beach Diet plan, but I
haven’t read the book and I need some pointers. I’ve found a wealth of
info on the web, I just need pointers from people who have actually
done this plan. I plan to check the book out very soon. So any
suggestions on getting started?

new board

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Hi all, I posted a day or two ago about a new board and I would once
more like to post the link to the board. Tom who owns this list is
the owner of the new board. He created it when the SB board he owned
got hacked and went down. There are any number of low carb plans out
there and so he decided to make the new board a general low carb
board. There are forums on there for discussing low carb in general
and then there are special forums for plans such as SB. We invite
all of you to take a look at the new board. You are welcome there
and here as well.
Now you ask why am I promoting this board so much, well let me tell
you.
I am one of the admins on the new board, and I am a moderator of this
list. I am here to help in anyway I can. I do not do a strict SB
because I still use the full cheeses, butter etc instead of low fat,
fat free etc. I have not found a good substitute for the real deal
when it comes to butter. All that I have found have trans fatty
acids in them and I consider those worse than the fat I get from the
small amount of butter I use. I think that SB is a good plan and
there are many things I like about it.
I also posted a few days ago asking for people to contact me who had
been doing this WOE for at least 6 months and tell me about their
success. We are looking for some people who really know SB to help
out on the new board. So if you really know this WOE and you enjoy
helping people, then please drop me a note, and lets talk.
This list is not going anywhere and you can belong on the new board
and here.
So how about taking a look. Remember the board is brand new and we
are still in the process of working on the board, so if you take a
look, and you have some suggestions, then let us know.
I have provided the link to the board below.

Menu ideas was:] Another Newbie

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

Welcome to the new people!

I have lost about 35 lbs so far. I kind of flaked out this last couple of weeks (No weight gain just platue.) but, I have started back recommiting to the diet. I just take the basic plan and match it to foods my family eats.

I try to keep the meats low in fat. Then I eat a salad with one or two vegetables for dinner. It is easy because my family can just add a carb if they want and everyone is happy. I don’t have to make two different meals and I don’t get too many complants. I have a large family so I will get some no matter what.

My snacks tend to be cheese and vegetables. Sometimes only one or the other. It just depends on how hungry I am.

My Lunch is usually some kind of a salad. Sometimes it looks simular to dinner if I don’t want salad. Or sometimes it is vegetables and sandwich stuff or sandwich stuff in lettuce.

Breakfast is usually eggs. I did have cottage cheese and fruit once but, I don’t think that worked as well for me.

I have been struggling with high blood sugar so I tend to stick around phase one. Once my meds kick in I will be changing to phase two. I occasionally have fruit because I miss it. But, I stay within the goals set by the dietician that I saw. Actually I am under my allowed carbs.

I sometimes enjoy a sugar free fudgesicle. It is good and does not have sugar.

I think steamed vegetables are easy so we eat a lot of those. You can either microwave them or I have a steamer that goes on the stove. I just use seasonings on my meat.

Pam

I did see the menu in the book but some of those thing are very labor intense and time consuming.. will be great for some days.. but generally I don’t have a lot of time to cook.. I am finding some ideas.. and working on it though..

Peace!
Mary

Hi, new member here from NY

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Hi, I thought I would introduce myself.
I am 50 lbs overweight but have already lost about 50. I was on my
own version of the Atkins Diet after reading the most recent of his
books which came out a few years ago. I did lose weight, but can no
longer stick to the ridgid intake of carbs. I tried to stay with it
but it is impossible to avoid carbohydrates at all costs which
Atkins pretty much requires despite the fact that devotees will
say “you can have carbs”. You CAN have carbs, but very few grams of
carbs. Even as you move up the hierarchy. When you come to discover
how many carbs different foods have, even a slice of bread, and then
look at the amount of carbs “you are allowed”, it is pretty
impossible to eat that way and still be around food.
I investigated the South Beach Diet, read the book and so am
venturing into unknown waters. The more I can learn about the South
Beach Diet, the better.
I need and want to take off this final 50 lbs.
Thanks for listening! :)

Hi there… I’m new to the board and was just wondering - what is “3% fat leben” you include in your recipe? Other than that, it looks really tasty!

THanks,

On the south beach website there are vegetarian meal plans. If soy and tofu
dont you bore you I dont see why you cant do south beach and be a
vegetarian.
How strict a vegetarian are you anyway? eggs? fish? if you just dont eat
meat- then there are still so many options.
South beach is adaptable to even the finickiest eater- I know I have one in
my house.
Here is a new recipe that i have developed and has been a big hit.
Brancakes
1 cup oat bran
1 cup whole wheat flour
200 ML 3% fat leben
200 ML water
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp Cinnamon
mix well
grease frying pan
yield is 10 brancakes
serve with your favorite sugar free jam or flavored syrup

For the first 2 weeks, my husband and I followed the menu that is in the
book. That way you do not have to plan anything except to be sure you have
all the necessary food in the house. It made it so much easier for us
knowing what we were going to have ahead of time and the recipes are really
easy. Mostly grilled meat and sometimes even the veggies are grilled. Easy
cleanup too. If you haven’t already purchased the book it is a good
investment. I checked the book out from our library at least 5 times before
I went ahead and purchaed the paperback version - that was only 5.95 at the
grocery store. Good luck.
