Can I loose weight just doing phase 2

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

I’ve read the books and i did phase one in the past but do not want to
do it again. Does anyone know if its possible to loose weight
starting with phase two? The only carbs I’m really eating on it are
steel cut oatmeal, and some fruit.

Ideas for Food –

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

My hubby and I have been on SB since July 5 and have both lost over 25
pounds. It hasn’t been a lot of work, either — He has about 30 to go
and I have about 50. I know I can do it.
Below are some interesting things I’ve experimented with and love.
Perhaps you can use some of these in your meal planning. Hope you
ENJOY!!! Bon Appetite - Sharon
Phase I OR II-
1. Grilled Chicken breasts ( or broiled ) I cooked mine on an
electric grill — Season it with Cajun Seasoning — When it’s about
done, put some low-fat (or non-fat) Creme Cheese on it and let it
melt. It works wonders for a change of pace! (You can do this with
steak, too.. we just don’t eat steak much here)
2. Stuff Celery with peanut butter or creme cheese.
3. Steam two boxes of frozen chopped spinach and add a carton (or
less) of the low fat creme cheese. Mix it up well and re-heat in the
microwave to melt. YUMMY!
4. My husband reluctantly gave up his own recipe for the following:
It would stand up next to any gourmet chef’s cabbage dish any day.
WARNING: this is a very spicy recipe….
Almond Cabbage: Slice a whole head of cabbage up, very thin
(1/16″ or so). Steam it for approximate 20 minutes or until cabbage
is tender.
Saute one large onion ( sliced thinly), in 1 tbsp. olive oil and
2 T. soy sauce with 1 heaping tsp. each of curry powder and tumeric
until about half done. Add one diced red bell ( or green pepper) and
2 medium jalepeno peppers, diced. Just before the peppers are done,
add approximately 2 tblsp, fresh, minced garlic ( or some that is in a
jar )
Combine onion mixture and cabbage together. Makes approximately 8
good size servings.
Place on a plate and sprinkle TOASTED ALMONDS on the top of each
serving. This is good cold or hot.

not a cook

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Hello. I just read a copy of South Beach and am starting in a couple
days. I was looking at the recipes for phase 1 and was a little
shocked to see that they are wayyyyy out of my cooking range. The
most gourmet thing I cook is tacos. Plus, I am not used to having to
go out and buy so much for just one meal (very expensive). Does
anyone have any suggestions for me? I want to follow phase 1 as it is
outlined in the book, but I don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen
or all my limited money either.
Thanks.
Oh, my goal is to lose 30 pounds.

Whats the real deal with peanut butter

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Can anyone tell me what the deal with eating peanut butter is. I know
during phase one youre only supposed to have like 2 teaspoons but what
about after that? I only eat all natural peanut butter which I know
is reccomened to stay away from the hydrogenated oil.
Please let me know at: ryanwex@…
thanks, Ryan

Hi Carri

That’s wonderful that you got off such an addictive drug. My friend’s daughter
is hooked on it.
I think you will find the SBD easier! Truly. Once you stop eating sugar and
carbs and eat a good amount of lean protein instead, you just don’t get hungry.
You feel stable and centered and energetic all day. Sugar is so addictive. I can
2 weeks with none, and then I’ll splurge one night, and guess what? It’s usually
like a 3 day binge til I get it back under control. But 24 hours without and I
don’t want it.
Breakfast - 1/2 cup cottage cheese
Lunch - Egg beaters w Canadian bacon and a tomato
Snack - cheese, lean meat with lettuce wrap
Dinner - lean meat (usually chicken) - as much as I want, a big mixed salad with
olive oil, grilled veggies like zucchini and mushrooms.
Snack - I make something similar to the ricotta creme using a dairy product I
tolerate better and which is lower in fat (it’s called dry curd cottage cheese
or pressed cottage cheese or sometimes farmer’s cheese)
Sometimes I add some almonds or a spoon of almond butter. Occasionally I have
small portions of fruit such as blueberries, clementines.
Hope this helps,
Suzan
Carri Rae Kontrovich Hey hey hey everyone. My name is Carri. I am a 28 year old mother of two young
boys and I just got married on August 7th 2005. Here’s my story….
About 2 1/2 years ago I had my kids taken from me because I was hooked on meth.
Well I quit and got them back. I have been clean for 2 years now but I have
gained 70 plus pounds since stopping the devils drug. I need to have as much
motivation to lose weight as I did when I quit doing drugs. I hope I did not
offend anyone here. Since then I have tried every diet in the book. You name it
I have tried it. So now I am hopeing to just eat healthy and get healthy. So I
need some support. THX, Carri

Size and goals

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

How have you determined what you want you end goal and size to be? I am working at 20 pounds at a time. Which I like but, part of me is curious how low I will be able to go. My lowest adult weight was 127 and that was pre marriage, babies ect. I worked as a janitor 24 hours a week. Did not eat much and took a swimming class. It was during college. My most comfortable young weight was 135. but with babies ect I don’t know if I will see that again.

Never ending battle…

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Hey everyone,
I’m very new to this message board thing, but I figure it might be
an inspiration, and a way to share my experience with the public
hopefully helping them. I indeed have many stories of my own weight
loss struggle, and I feel a need to discuss my personal set backs and
plateaus and compare them all of yours to try and overcome the battle
of the bulge.
My struggle started at birth, over weight, always being the
chubby girl. I tend to exaggerate my size, I blame it on my
obsession with the medias’ perfect body image. At my lowest point, I
had reached a weight of 187lbs on a 5′5 body.
I changed my eating habits totally, replacing flour with
whole grains, eating more fruit and vegetable, and using dessert
replacements like chocolate chip granola bars, fruit and whip cream,
and god bless all those frozen or chilled fat free desserts.
Speed walking for 45 minutes, 5 days a week, eating two to
three square meals a day, shhh..don’t tell Dr Atkin I ate a potatoe
with light becel, or sprinkle molly mcbutter, and fat free sour cream
six out of seven nights a week. I drank a whole lot of chocolate
milk, and tried to fill my plate with fruit and veggies at every meal.
I was able to drop down to 145lbs in about a year and I was
so pleased. In the next few months I had dropped down to about 135.
People I hadn’t seen since high school were in total shock when they
saw me, most didn’t even recogzie me. I was bathed in compliments
everyday, and finally turned heads I’d wanted to turn my whole life.
I settled down with my first long term, and sadfully image
obesessed womanizer whose handsome face and tight body made me feel
momentarily happy with my trophy boyfriend. As I got comfortable,
started cooking for him, eating out with him, late night Wendy’s with
him, packing on pounds–not for him. He became unattracted to me
because of a simple thirty pounds. He broke things off claiming he
had falling out of attraction with me after nine months for an
unknown reason. It was known to me.
So after that breakup, about 8 months ago, I introduced
myself to Dr. Atkins, after constant super toned celebrity hype.
Still heartbroken and indulgent, I ate high fat meat, whipped creams,
fried veggies, and more butter then I’d ever eaten in my whole life
thinking all of this was ok. I bought a treadmill, started running
about three months ago now for 45 minutes a day, minutes a 10 minute
warm up. I shed pounds, about six or seven a month, but not enough
to satisfy me.
It’s funny how a small, old lady in a checkout line,
casually chatting with some other ninety five year olds, could say
something that would stay with me for a very long time. “You can’t
just cut out carbs, you need to eat low fat, and low carb and you
WILL lose weight”.
After hearing this I had to experiment. I cut out fatty
protein, eating only chicken, fish and grilling all food. I ate a
ton of veggies and still endulged in high fat cream dips as a reward
for eating like a rabbit.
Now I’m stuck. This is where this group thing comes in.
I feel the need to convert, because although this low carb may be a
way of shedding weight, the long term effects could be heartbreaking,
literally. So I want to replace the high fat cream in my tea or
coffee every morning with non fat milk, I want to eat that sweet,
sweet fruit that I once enjoyed, and I need to PUT DOWN THE NUTS, but
what about the carbs? Will eating these carbs now that my body is so
use to living on so few cause me to balloon up?
So who ever would like to enlighten a newbie to the South
Beach, with some sweet, sweet treats, and rich satisfying desserts
and some hard, cold reasons to convert, please do so. Please help me
change my eating habits permanently.
