INSPIRATION

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

You are what you eat. Its not just that we want to be thin - but
healthy as well. White bread and ice cream are crap and do not benefit
your body. Treat your body like a temple and it will treat you the
same.

White Death

There is a book out called White Death, that precedes this diet and
WOL, that shows how processed, refined, white sugar and flower are
causing a major health weakness across this country. ~K

Why no wiegh loss? was:Sick of SB Food?

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

I wonder why you have not lost weight. How much do you have to lose? Maybe it will just take more time. Maybe you need to up the intensity of your workouts. I reciently had to quit doing a workout I love because it was not working my heart enough. Maybe you missed something the last time through the book. I keep looking back so I can get it all.

Good Luck,
Pam

My problem is I have stuck VERY strictly to phase one, exercised and lost NOTHING!

Converting sugar to splenda?

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

I believe splenda is used at the same ratio as sugar. At least I used to
use it in my cheesecakes that way.

Quinoa

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Hi Chistian,
Just saw your message about Quinoa. This happens to be one of
my “discoveries” on SB. I had been reading some health magazines and
this has been mentioned so much in recipes that I had to find out
about it. I buy it in my supermarket in the health food section.
I had to laugh when I looked it up on the internet and found out it
has been around for 5000 years! My husband is a diabetic and it also
fits in well with his diet.
I use it as a side dish, similar to a rice use, but it is not a grain
but a “seed of a leafy plant that’s distantly related to spinach”
(for anyone who is interested). I like to toast it first - yum!
This is not something I have every night. I have added this to my
menus and having been on SB for over a year and holding on a 50 lb.
weight loss so I think it fits in fine!
Good luck everyone.

Loosing weight through Millet, Quinoa and Amarant.

Friday, June 16th, 2006

Dear Group
I am Cristian from Denmark. I am new in this group. I teach people
about the Ayurveda diet in my country.
According to Ayurveda (The indian medicine system) Millet, Quinoa and
Amarant are light in quality - i.e. they do not create slime, mucus
and heaviness in the body like Rice and wheat do.
I doubt if it is possible at all to put on weight when eating these 3
types of grains even though they are high on the glycemic Index? I
myself are loosing weight. Any experience on that ?

Converting sugar to splenda?

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Does anyone know how many packets of splenda it would take to equal 1/3
cup of sugar? I’m converting a bread pudding recipe to south beach and
am trying to avoid buying a whole bag of splenda for just one recipe.
Thanks.

Eatting good food: was RE: NEWBIE here - Lyne-Elizabeth

Monday, June 12th, 2006

I have thought about this. I have learned a lot about eating since I started this program. One of the things that I learned before I did this is that if I don’t like the food then I wont want to eat it. So if none of the menu items appeal to you then look at the allowed list. Find some meat that you like. Then think about what you can do to make it compliant with the book.

For example, I buy chicken. Sprinkle some seasoning on it. Then add a salad and another vegetable. I like that meal. I look to the book for ideas and then eat what sounds good and is fairly compliant.

I don’t follow the meal plan, I pick a meat from the allowed list, and add vegetables from the list that will go with it.

I hear there’s a new cook book coming out soon. Maybe this will make things easier for you.

Becky ~

I’m following the meals in the book to the letter as well…I’m on day four of phase one. We have no food allergies and the only things we really don’t like are asparagus - spinach and eggplant…oh liver too. I consider this a lifestyle change as well, but it’s really hard when you are finding the food yucky! Thank you all for your help

New to SBD with question

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

Hi all,
My name is Lani. I’m 44 years old and have been overweight my entire
life. I look at my school pictures and I was a little weeble even in
kindergarten. I’ve tried diet after diet and I just loose interest
after the first couple of days. I was told about SBD and how
different it is so, I just got the SBD book. I’m in the process of
reading it and getting a shopping list together. I have a question
though …
I know what I am NOT allowed to have, but, I’m not as clear on what I
CAN have. I know that I can have eggs, lean meat, chicken, veggies,
low fat cheese and some seafood. My question is this - is there a
limit on the amount that I can have? Is there a max number of eggs
per day? A max amount of cheese? A max on meat? I would be a very
happy camper if I could eat bacon and eggs with cheese for breakfast
everyday (or a quiche); diced chicken, chic peas, cheese and bacon
bits on romaine lettuce for lunch; and taco salad for dinner every
night. Maybe it’s because I’ve been on a diet for my entire life, but
I just can’t seem to wrap my mind around this.
Please help me get a grasp on this new lifestyle concept.
Thanks,
Lani

NEWBIE here - Lyne-Elizabeth

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Hi Lyne-Elizabeth~

How long have you been on this WOE [way of eating]? Please post a sample menu so I know what you are eating, and what phase you are in… I followed the plan out of the book to the letter practically for the convenience of knowing what I would be cooking for my meals. If you have allergies, and many dislikes, maybe this whole group can give you lots of pointers.

Keep us posted and lets work on this for you :-)
I’ll help any way I can, this is a lifestyle change for the better for us all… and not considered a

“diet” that I’ll stop after all the weight is off.

Not a expert here~

Sherry

Sherry,

I wish I had your strength. I’m really having trouble with this as the food really stinks…any advice?
