I get the steel cut oats at Ralph's supermarket, Savemart, Whole Food store, and Trader Joe's in California. My name is Becky I'm new here. I cook the steel cut oats in the crockpot.
1 Cup steel cut oat
4 cups water
season to you taste... My family likes Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg & ground cloves. It tastes like an Apple pie.
I put everything in the crockpot before going to bed and when you get up it is all ready and the house smells so good. Hope this helps.

I use steel cut oats which you cook for 15 - 20 minutes. I like it
better than the other kinds. I add almonds and apples etc. to it and
 it is yummy.
Which store did you buy the steel cut oats at. I am willing to try
them and I am guessing that a health food store or Whole Foods is the
place to start. I know the 5 minute Oats is on the diet, but if steel
cut is better for you I will try it

I use steel cut oats which you cook for 15 - 20 minutes. I like it
better than the other kinds. I add almonds and apples etc. to it and
it is yummy.
Which store did you buy the steel cut oats at. I am willing to try
them and I am guessing that a health food store or Whole Foods is the
place to start. I know the 5 minute Oats is on the diet, but if steel
cut is better for you I will try it

I've been looking at the SB reference guide and I've been trying to figure out how I want to go about starting Phase 1.

In my observations... the book information and the information on certain food labels are in my opinion vastly different..

Also certain things that DR. Agatston has stated on one page, he takes back on others...

And I was just wondering if any one could help me clarify

First of all... Veggie cocktail juice ( and plain tomato juice)... in my area there is only the V8 and store brand... which has way more sugars than what Dr. Ag suggests in the reference guide for a 6 oz serving.. So how would I go about balancing my portions?

Second .. Skim Ricotta.. in the book it states there are no sugar grams... but in all the labels I've looked at there is at least 6g per 1/2 serving. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/products/specialty/cheese-selector/ricotta-partskim.html

(food label from Whole foods brand part skim ricotta)

lastly for now.. Mayo... in the book, in the recipes it calls for REDUCED FAT mayo for some of the wraps... but in the reference guide 2 TBSP of FULL FAT Mayo is "better" for you regarding sugar and carbs.. So.. which should I use and why does the doctor go from full fat in one book to reduced fat in another?

This diet really confues me, My doctor recommended it to me as a safe way to loss weight and eat healthy..( Her father and grandfather follow the plan..and have improved there health, so that was some good urging toward SBD for me!)

I was once doing the Atkins approach and I liked the way he discribed the diet much better, even though I now know it was bad for me.. he explained more exactly what you can and can not eat and in what portions.. it just seems to me that on SB there is a very large margin for error. The book says one thing and the reference guide says something else entirely.

I was just wondering if some one who has been doing SB for a while or maybe has access to more info than I do could help me out.

PS. Thanks to those who answered my first question.. sorry it was posted twice... I understand that newbies are moderated.. but I've been having some Hormone issues lately and the delay just set me on edge. :)

I looked for steel cut oats but couldn't find them. I got 100% rolled oats that cook in five minutes. Hope that's the right kind

OK Thank you :) I will add the right kind to the grocery list and save the other kind for the kids. :)

Dr. Agatston recommends the 5-minute oatmeal, not the instant kind. I suppose you can get an idea whether your oatmeal is the recommended kind from the cooking instructions.

It's not the instant kind but it says "cooks in one minute" so I should avoid it?
