Holiday question

Friday, May 11th, 2007

What are you doing instead of baking? I love to bake with my kids and I am looking for healthier alternatives. Any great ideas out there?

Not so good…

Monday, May 7th, 2007

OK, I was not that good this Thanksgiving - I didn’t eat the pies, but I ate
mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing! Tried to be better on Friday, but
yesterday I indulged in chineese food while shopping, then came home and had
chips and wine, and this morning had a not very SBD friendly breakfast
(finnish pancakes).
So, later today and tomorrow it is back on the SBD wagon for me - all the
company leaves today, so it will be a lot easier to eat “my foods”. Those
of you who were able to maintain SBD over the Thanksgiving holiday, my hats
off to you - I was not able to this weekend despite my best intentions, and
I’m sure there are others on here as well. The important thing is for all
of us to get back on track, and only look ahead at all the good things SBD
does for us!
By the way, when I first joined a few weeks ago, someone had a quote I’ve
lost, something about going off your diet is one bad decision after another
or something like that - does anyone know what I’m talking about?
Thanks,
Pat

insulin question

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

I have been using SB to lear to control my bloodsugar. I have recently began to take insulin. Has anyone used this diet while on insulin?

I have been trying to remember to make all of my carbs complex. I have been limiting fruit to the evening. I am not sure what else because this is all new to me.

I hope all is well with all of you.

sasuage scramble

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

I have found this to be very yummy and versatile. Serves 2
Stir fry 5-6 oz. Jimmy Dean sasuage in skillet til crumbly. Grate in
1/2 c. of yellow squash. Add small shallot or garlic clove and
saute. Season as desired. Move meat to side and spray pan with
Canola or Olive oil spray. Crack in two - 3 eggs and scramble soft
then mix eggs with sasuage and cook 1-2 minutes. Other additions for
variation include: Cheese, tomatoes, green pepper, green chilies,
salsa. Can eat and enjoy as is or roll up in low carb tortilla. -

hi Pam

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Hi Pam, I don’t really do menus here. I try to keep in mind what I’m supposed to eat and what types. Then I go to the frig and cupboard and put together a meal. That is probably why I am not losing any faster but I’m happy. I’m focusing on trying to figure out what I can eat and still gradually lose so this can be a life long eating plan not just a diet. The key for me has been to keep refined carbs out of the house. I’m lucky because I don’t have a husband to make demands in that area and my kids are all grown and gone.

Most recently I have been moving towards more organic stuff and it seems to help me but I know most people cannot do this. I’m not totally organic but I do try to have most of our meat and eggs organic the stuff they shoot full of hormones etc. I don’t think our grocery bill is too much higher because I eat so much less. I’m not hungary all the time now.

When I plan a meal I look for a protein, a complex starch, and veggies that are not starchy. I get tired of salads so I go with raw veggies at times that I just cut up and leave off the lettuce.

If I get really hungary for something even if it is supposedly not on the diet I have a small amount and then go back to phase II. I’m afraid I’m very relaxed with it because I want it to be a way of life and I can’t put too much focus on food in my everyday life. At first I had to work at it but now it is much easier.

Glad to hear from you. I got very sloppy on my program in Aug/Sept.
and actually gained 4 lbs. But went back on ph1 in Oct. and have now
lost 6 lbs. I let too much chocolate and wine creep into my plan so
had to cut that out. Also started exercising this week so I am hopeful
for quicker results soon. Please share some of your menus and ideas
and I sometimes get in a rut. Thanks to all her share. - PAM
